Originally the economic center of canada, it was dwarfed by toronto after risk-averse businesses left during separatist tumult. Currently, however, it may be said to have one of the largest student populations in north america due to a large number of universities; both english and french.
Figuratively, montreal is illegal according to provincial law 101 as long as english universities (namely concordia, mcgill, …) exist in the city.
Multi-facety is exemplified by montreal / montréal.
